We are honored to support Veterans referred through the VA Community Care Network.

Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) provides structured, evidence-based treatment for substance use disorders while recognizing the unique experiences of military service, transition, and reintegration.

This program is trauma-informed and Veteran-centered.

What Is an IOP?

An Intensive Outpatient Program is a structured level of care that includes:

  • 9–15 hours of treatment per week

  • Group therapy (primary modality)

  • Individual therapy

  • Relapse prevention planning

  • Case management

  • Random drug screening (as clinically indicated)

  • Care coordination with VA providers

IOP allows Veterans to receive comprehensive treatment while continuing to live at home.

Who This Program Serves

This program is appropriate for Veterans who:

  • Struggle with alcohol or substance use

  • Have co-occurring PTSD, depression, anxiety, or trauma-related symptoms

  • Are stepping down from residential or detox care

  • Have experienced relapse

  • Need structured accountability

  • Were referred through VA CCN for higher level outpatient care

Veteran-Centered Treatment Approach

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

  • Motivational Interviewing

  • Trauma-Informed Care

  • Relapse Prevention

  • Strength-Based Recovery

  • Military Cultural Competency

We understand:

  • Combat-related trauma

  • Military sexual trauma (MST)

  • Moral injury

  • Reintegration stress

  • Service-related identity transitions

Program Structure

Schedule

  • 3–5 days per week

  • 3 hours per session

  • Telehealth and/or in-person options (if authorized)

Length of Treatment

  • Average: 8–12 weeks

  • Based on medical necessity and VA authorization

Group Therapy

  • Process groups

  • PTSD and substance use integration

  • Emotional regulation

  • Trigger identification

  • Peer accountability

  • Communication skills

  • Relapse prevention

Veteran-specific themes may include:

  • Transition stress

  • Survivor’s guilt

  • Anger management

  • Isolation and connection

  • Purpose after service

Individual Therapy

  • Personalized treatment plan

  • Progress reviews

  • Trauma processing (when clinically appropriate)

  • Coping skill development

  • Coordination with VA providers

Coordination With VA

We work collaboratively with:

  • VA Primary Care

  • VA Mental Health Providers

  • VA Substance Use Clinics

  • VA Case Managers

With your signed consent, we provide:

  • Treatment updates

  • Attendance verification

  • Clinical progress summaries

  • Discharge recommendations

Treatment authorization and extensions are based on VA CCN approval and medical necessity.

Confidentiality & Veteran Protections

Your information is protected under:

  • HIPAA

  • 42 CFR Part 2 (Substance Use confidentiality regulations)

  • VA Community Care guidelines

Information is shared only with proper authorization or when required by law.

Expectations for Participation

Veterans are expected to:

  • Attend all scheduled sessions

  • Arrive on time

  • Participate actively

  • Maintain sobriety

  • Complete assigned therapeutic work

  • Participate in drug screening (if required)

  • Treat staff and peers with respect

Attendance compliance is important for continued VA authorization.

Discharge Planning & Aftercare

Recovery does not end at discharge. We assist with:

  • Step-down outpatient therapy

  • VA mental health follow-up

  • Community support meetings (AA, NA, SMART Recovery)

  • Medication management referrals

  • Sober living resources (if needed)
